Our brother Yachin was the victim of a violent attack by an unknown assailant. The aftermath of the attack required 13+ hours of emergency surgery to repair severe damage to 3 of the 4 major nerves and an artery in his left arm. Yachin, Tameka and 3 year old Teo are looking at a hefty price tag in the coming 12-18 months minimum. Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and help to take SOME of the burden off of them after this senseless attack.
Backstory:
Yachin was out for a walk in a local park in Seattle when he was attacked and stabbed twice. During the attack, he received life-threatening injuries to his chest and arm. By some miracle, he was able to contact his wife, Tameka, and she was able to call 911. They were able to stabilize him, but he required a team of vascular and plastic surgeons to perform emergency surgery on damage to an artery and major nerves in his arm.
He is home from the hospital and keeping his spirits up, but has a very long (and expensive) road to recovery ahead of him. Currently, he can’t move or feel his left arm as 3 of the 4 major nerve groups in his left arm were severed. These happen to be the nerve bundles that control the hand and wrist. Nerves only grow about 1 mm per day, equal to about 1 inch per month, so the soonest he will get any level of mobility in his left hand will be over a year from now. It may still be months before he can attempt to pick up his 3 year old son and at least that long until he even knows if he will be able to fully recover the use of his left arm or hand.
In addition to all the medical bills already accrued, there are many added costs coming in the near future, including physical therapy, follow-up procedures, additional surgeries, extra childcare for their young son, in-home care and added household expenses.
