One of our volunteers from Women's Volunteer Miami received a call about two dogs in desperate need of help. Upon arrival, she found two neglected souls, each carrying the weight of their painful past.

The first was a sweet female Chihuahua named Canela, completely blind and relying on her remaining senses to navigate a world that had shown her little kindness. Despite her heartbreaking circumstances, she clung to hope, seeking warmth and comfort in every gentle touch. The second was a small male Shih Tzu named Rocky. At just four years old, he's faced struggles no dog should endure, missing a rear leg and coping with deformities in his other leg. This leaves him dragging his hind legs, causing painful sores on his belly from years of friction against the rough ground. Rocky desperately needs a wheelchair to move freely and feel the joy of exploration.

We couldn’t turn a blind eye to these gentle souls. With the invaluable assistance of Picolinis Rescue, we brought them out of their troubled lives, offering them a new chance filled with love and safety.

Yet, their journey to recovery comes at a cost.
