Lakota Waldorf School is proud to host the first Pow Wow of the new school year as part of the Teca Wacipi Okolakiciye (our School Pow Wow Club). This event brings together students, families, and community members to celebrate our Lakota culture.
Like in past years, our Pow Wow will be a waste-free event, no plastic, no pop. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own dishes and water bottles, but we’ll provide recyclable plates and bowls for those who need them. Supper and drinking water will be shared with all. In this way, we honor Mother Earth.
Hosting such an event comes with expenses:
- Drum groups (8–10 members each, plus an honor drum group) are given stipends to help cover travel and gas.
- The Eyapaha (announcer) receives a stipend for their work in guiding the event.
- T-shirts for all dancers and singers, a tradition of the hosting school.
- We will provide a meal for around 200 people.
Thanks to generous donations from families and community members, many items like water containers and outhouses are already covered. Still, we estimate costs of around $8,000–$9,000 to make this celebration possible.
Your support will help us open the Pow Wow season by honoring students, culture, and Mother Earth.
Every contribution, big or small, helps ensure this tradition continues to thrive for our children and community.
Wopila Tanka Echichiyape lo/ksto (a big thank you) for your generosity!
