Hello. My name is William Hajar, and I am a junior nursing student at Norwich University. This spring, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Costa Rica with Norwich University's School of Nursing (NUSON) in partnership with Corner of Love Humanitarian Services. On this medical mission trip, I will volunteer my time and skills to provide essential medical care and aid to underserved communities and refugees who have sought safety in Costa Rica.
Why This Trip Matters To Me
From the moment I entered the field of nursing, I knew I wanted to make a difference in people's lives—not just in hospitals but in communities where medical care is scarce. This trip is more than just an academic requirement; it is an opportunity for me to step beyond the structured environment of a hospital and care for those who don't have easy access to medical treatment.
Many people I will meet have never seen a doctor or nurse; for some, the care we provide might be their only medical assistance for months or even years. I hope to learn to adapt, think critically, and work in challenging environments while practicing compassionate, patient-centered care. More importantly, I want to listen to their stories, understand their struggles, and learn what it truly means to serve those in need.

The total cost of this trip is $1,850, which is a direct donation to the Coner of Love mission to help fund their staff of medical personnel and the families who take part in this mission. As a full-time student balancing academics, work, military service, and parenthood, I am fundraising to make this experience possible.
