Hi, my name is Jeri Goodman, and on the night of December 2, 2025, two of my closest friends lost their home, their dog, cat, bird, and everything they hold dear in a house fire. William Pope suffered second-degree burns, and Gena Hunt suffered smoke inhalation.

Update: William and Gena have been released from the ER and The American Red Cross has put them up in a hotel, for how long I don't know. Off and on tonight I've been thinking about how I'd feel if Rufus (schnauzer) had died in a fire and suddenly I can't breathe. My friends loved those fur babies with all their heart and soul and I imagine the unbridled devastation they must be feeling is off the charts. So thank you again to all who have donated and all who will donate. We appreciate you more than you know.

I chose Progressive insurance for my home and car years ago and it is really a great company and provides good coverage. They are paying for us to stay at the Marriott hotel through the 31st and then we will get placed in a more permanent home until our house is rebuilt. The loss of our home and pets has been so devastating. I appreciate all of you and thank you for keeping us on your mind and in your hearts and for all of your blessings and help. I'm still in shock of losing my Sophie, Dwight bird, Guy our pretty kitty, and our turtles and tortoises. Pets have always provided so much comfort and happiness to me so I chose to have a collection. I left out fish, we lost them as well. We are rebuilding the house and it should be about 9 months before it will be complete. I'm not sure if we will choose to live in it or sell and relocate closer to family. Little by little things will get better. Again thank you all for the love and checking on us. ❤️

Update 12/8:

After William found his wallet still intact in the house, he was finally able to become the beneficiary of the GoFundMe money. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. You have no idea how much we appreciate you! Gena is retired and disabled and William had to take a couple of weeks off from work so all the donations are going towards helping them stay afloat until they get settled. So please, if you haven't or can't donate, please share this tragic story of the sweetest people you'll ever want to meet.
