THE PROJECT:

The Dalton Sisters is our new play centred around four women who work in a 60’s burlesque nightclub. It’s Cabaret, meets Glow, meets An Inspector Calls.

“Welcome to Honey Bliss Cabaret!” says Coco to Salome, a house wife who urgently needs a place to sleep and some money to make it through the week. Stumbling upon the mysterious world of burlesque, the Dalton Sisters welcome her with (half-)open arms. But Salome quickly realises that the sweet pizzazz the girls keep mentioning isn’t what it seems. One name in particular gives them shivers: that of the previous dancer who this newcomer has the responsibility of replacing. What happened to Rue? And will Salome thrive or will she take a dive? Between glasses of bubbly, sparkly costumes and the unwanted visit of a detective, the girls and their Madame will have to decide the fate of the burlesque club as well as heir own.

There will be a 4-week rehearsal process followed by performances at The Space Arts Centre from 10 to 14 May 2022. The play is female-led and explores themes of being trapped, liberation through sexualisation, sisterhood and the female experience. For this project, the company is planning on casting performers who aren’t necessarily members of the company, thus collaborating and connecting with fellow artists in London.

THE COMPANY:

We are Two Flats Theatre  ! An East-London based theatre company that consists of 7 international artists (Croatian, Belgian/Dutch, Spanish, Italian/Kiwi, German, South-African, English).

Our company was formed in 2020 as a result of the desire to create work during the global pandemic, whilst we were all living together in two neighbouring flats in the heart of Tower Hamlets.

In March 2021, we made our successful debut ‘A Blue Something’ which was performed on stage at The Space Arts Centre  and broadcasted live to a 200+ audience all over the globe.

Since then we have continued to produce creative work by collaborating with fellow companies both on stage [Camden Fringe Festival, Tsitsit Fringe Festival, Oceanallover] and on screen [Union Dance, Foot Five]. The artistic director of our company founded Popdipingdi Productions which produced the award-winning short film Doldrums [Honourable mention at the Roma Short Film Festival and selected as Finalist at the New York Tri-State International Film Festival].

THE INVESTMENT:

With this crowd funding, we are hoping to get support from our lovely fellow artists and community of theatre makers. This campaign is 25% of the funds we plan on raising.

The £1800 will be used wisely to:

  • Contribute to our casts’ pay through equity minimum rates.
  • Secure rehearsal spaces.
  • Set, props and costume from charity shops or local independent small business/creators to ensure sustainability and the support of freelancers (we are trying to keep these costs as low as possible).

If we succeed to raise our £3600 stretch goal:
  • Creative’s pay through equity minimum rates - assistant director, music director, technician, movement director, intimacy coordinator and stage manager.
  • Extra costs for set, prop and costume.
  • Extra marketing costs.

"It's not burlesque's prime time, but we're surviving..." All small contributions help!

Thank you dearly,
From us.
