My daughter, Trinity Sasscer, has been battling some major medical problems — and she needs our help. At just 24 years old, she is preparing to undergo (Ventriculoperitoneal) VP Shunt Placement Surgery. This is brain surgery to relieve elevated inter-cranial pressure caused by a chronic neurological condition.
She’s fought to remain strong and independent, working through worsening symptoms over the last 5 years but the time has come when she can’t fight alone anymore.
Why Trinity Needs This Surgery
For the last 5 yrs Trinity has suffered from:
• Debilitating migraines from high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
• Excessive vomiting at times being unable to keep fluid down
• Adrenal insufficiencies (Addison’s Disease) now requiring lifelong steroid replacement.
• Optic Nerve damage which has caused her to loose most of her vision in one eye
She has had three inpatient hospital stays in the last year alone. During that time, she has tried a wide range of treatments from frequent IV infusions to the therapeutic lumbar puncture and multiple medications. Unfortunately, none of these provide lasting relief. In February, she finally underwent a lumbar drain trial, which provided significant relief for a full two weeks - the best she has felt since before her diagnosis. Based on those results, her medical team determined that a permanent shunt would offer her the best chance of living a pain-free life moving forward, relief of symptoms, and possibly return of lost vision.
The Road to Recovery
Her surgery is scheduled for the last week of July (TBD.) Trinity does have FMLA which protects her job and insurance, but basic living expenses will become nearly impossible to cover without extra support.
We are raising $8,000 to help cover:
- Rent, electricity, insurance and other essential monthly bills
- Medication cost, and co-pays
- Transportation
- And pet related expenses for her dog Sunny
From a Mother’s Heart
As her mom, it’s incredibly difficult to watch Trinity suffer. She’s fiercely independent and has never been one to ask for help – but after years of enduring symptoms, and now facing surgery, she is bravely choosing FAITH over fear and preparing for an operation that could finally bring her much-needed relief.
While Trinity has been doing everything in her power to financially prepare for this, the reality is that nobody should have to face something this big alone. We’re trusting in the Lord and the kindness of others to help ease the crushing financial pressure during her recovery, so she can focus fully on healing.
We are hoping to raise at least half the goal by surgery day to ease her anxiety and give her peace of mind before going into this life-changing procedure.
