Help us equip our Music Studio for young people!

Tax deductible

The past few months have been a tremendously challenging time for many in the arts and we have been so grateful for the enduring support from our community who have continued to engage with us from their own homes.

As a registered charity, Theatre Peckham heavily relies on tickets sales and Academy fees for a significant proportion of our income, in order to support the vital work we do here with young people. The impact of COVID-19 on an organisation like ours, and many others, is a real threat to our existence and future.

Our team have been working tirelessly throughout this time, adapting our programme to become a hub for digital creative activity, classes for children, masterclasses, and development training for emerging artists, to ensure we were able to support our community creatively.

We have continued to keep our young people connected by giving them a creative outlet to express themselves. We all know music is a uniting force and a powerful tool to remain joyful and hopeful in times in crisis.

We need your support now more than ever, please consider donating towards our Music Studio for young people, however large or small. Our aim is to create a dedicated place to support their creative development and realise their potential.

Let’s create something positive.

Theatre Peckham's Music Production and Song Writing Programme

Last summer five young members of Theatre Peckham aged 10-13 expressed the desire to learn how to make music and write songs. We decided to borrow technical equipment and run a few sessions for those young people with freelance music producer and Theatre Peckham alumnus Luis Gustavo to see the potential of the class.

As a result of the sessions the five pupils learned how to: use technology to create music; write lyrics, perform, record and edit tracks. At the end of the academic year the group wrote their first full song "HeartBeat" and produced their first music video.

Music Production and Song Writing is a now a very popular programme of Theatre Peckham Academy with 22 young people aged 8-16 attending and a long waiting list. We would love to accommodate more young people, however, we have very limited equipment available that we do not own. This is why we need your help!

At the moment we only have one borrowed computer to teach 11 children at the time, limiting the number of people we can teach, and what they can learn in each session. We need to raise £5,000 to buy new computers, software, microphones and other technical equipment to improve the programme for our young people.

The goal of this programme is to train young people to be young music producers and songwriters, supporting them through every step of their creative development. We can achieve this with your help! Please donate and follow the campaign.

About Theatre Peckham

Theatre Peckham places excellence, accessibility, and inclusive engagement at the centre of its artistic offer. We are diversity-conscious and community-focused, delivering world-class creative learning and performance, with, by and for young people, accompanying them from the age of 3 until their first steps into a career in the creative industries.

Theatre Peckham has been a local charity for over 30 years, with a rich history of inspiring and educating thousands of young people in Peckham and Camberwell (Greater London, UK) through long-term engagement with the arts.

Over the year, we liaise with around 30 schools and 400 families, delivering over 30 weekly performing arts classes. Inclusivity is at the heart of Theatre Peckham: 79% of participants define themselves as ethnically diverse and 24% are entitled to fee support due to low income.

We are only able to deliver this valuable work with young people through continued fundraising, every little donation matters! Please donate to this campaign and support these young people’s creative journeys.
