Support Tom Megill During Recovery
Donation protected
Hey everyone. My name is Destiny and I'm hoping to get some help for my stepdad and mom, Tom and Lindsay Megill.
I currently live with my mom and Tom along with my little brother. I help as much as I can but my paycheck is way below the needs of the family and medical expenses. Bills are falling behind and due to his inability to use his hand he is losing customers and income.
Anyone that knows my stepdad (Tom) and my mom (Lindsay) knows they do what they can to help anyone in need. Whether it's donating, buying tickets, shirts etc. to help a fundraiser for someone they love.
THIS TIME THEY NEED OUR HELP.
Tom is a self employed automotive mechanic and the sole income provider for the family. My mom hasn't been able to work the last couple years due to her own lengthy list of health issues.
2024 has not been nice to either of them on a medical stand point.
In January, my mom suffered a perforated colon close to going septic and was rushed into emergency surgery. A few months later it was found that she has a brain tumor. Doctors believe it's benign but are monitoring for growths and determination of treatment. She goes next month for another scan. Before that she suffered and still does from fibromyalgia, severe anemia, intense vertigo attacks, balance issues and more. (we believe its all tumor related). Tom has stayed by her side through every hospital stay and appointment she has had. Lindsay has also been by his side throughout this injury and healing process as well. They are inseparable.
On July 26th, 2024 Tom suffered an injury to his right (dominant) hand requiring surgery. He cut the top of his middle knuckle which he was stitched up and sent home by the ER.
(Note: for Tom to volunteer to go to the emergency room.... it's bad)
After a "follow up" visit with the ortho doctor, he was scheduled for immediate surgery on August 6th.
It was found by the ortho surgeon that the tendon had been severed and receded 1.5 cm, with a slice to the joint as well.
Tom has been unable to work much due to the inability to use that hand, and they are starting to suffer greatly. I do all I can to help, but it's just not enough, unfortunately.
Tom is not one to ask for help even when it's desperately needed, so I am reaching out for help for him and my mom. He has already missed almost 4 weeks of work with at least 4-6 weeks more to go.
His ortho surgeon has been absolutely amazing. He understands their position and working with them as much as possible, but there's still a long road of healing and recovery, followed by therapy to regain strength and movement of his fingers.
Anything is appreciated and very much needed. If you'd like to help in other ways please contact me or my mom, Lindsay. I may work up a meal train type list or something as well. Anything we can do to help them get over this hump.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions or share some love. I will do my best to answer or relay the messages.
I will share updates as they come.
Thanks,
Destiny N.
