Hello, my name is Titus Lometo.
I am a citizen of the Marshall Islands; a beautiful and ancient Pacific Island country that the U.S. invaded, colonized, and tested atomic bombs. Since this time, the U.S. has made a compact with Marshallese citizens (a pathetic apology) that they may travel freely between the islands and the U.S. with proper documentation called an I-94 form. I was born on the islands, and even though my mom is a U.S. citizen, because of confusing bureaucracy, my citizenship status was never confirmed when I first immigrated to the states. To be legally documented in the U.S. which has been my home since I was 4 years old, I need to obtain an I-94 form costing nearly $500. Currently I am laid off for the month of January, and because of me being undocumented I am not able to receive unemployment benefits even though I am taxed the exact same as all my U.S. colleagues through my U.S.-Marshallese social security number. I also never received any federal stimulus in both payouts.
I need help in paying for and acquiring this documentation. Without this documentation I am not legally allowed to leave the U.S., work in other states, receive benefits like federal financial aid, unemployment, stimulus, health insurance, home loans, etc. This is just the beginning of my documentation journey but is one of the greatest hurdles I face right now and any small support would mean the world to me as this has been a long-standing struggle and it has come to the point I have to get this documentation to be "legal" in the U.S. gaze.
Once I apply for the I-94 form I will show all of my supporters and we will celebrate together this milestone. I am so grateful to all my friends and family who have tried to help me thus far in this confusing legality battle.
