COVID took Mike Timer; please help his wife Mel

Mike, Melanie and I have been friends for 39 years. They are, by far, my best friends. If you had the pleasure of meeting them, you too would become their friends. The two of them together have the relationship that all marriages should be. Over all the years that I have known them rarely have I seen them as individuals as they were a couple who have lived and loved life together.
Mike had been battling blood cancer for the past four years. His chemotherapy had been keeping his illness in check. Unfortunately, Covid-19 would strike both Mike and Mel at the beginning of November. Mike entered the ICU at Ascension Genesis hospital in Grand Blanc on November 3rd. He was in the ICU when he and Melanie reached their 41st wedding anniversary on November 10th. His battle with Covid-19 lasted 16 days, with Mike passing away on November 19th, 2020.
Fortunately, I have been able to cover Mike’s funeral expenses. While supporting Melanie (Mel) during her loss I have come to learn that there is no life insurance policy, nor credit life coverage on their mortgage. While Mike had been receiving a pension from his years working in the Carman Ainsworth school district as a bus mechanic, we are not certain how much of his benefits she will be eligible to receive going forward.
Melanie has recovered from her fight with Covid-19. However as she had been working as a preschool/pre-kindergarten teacher in the same school system as Mike when the pandemic hit, she has not been working since April. Her unemployment benefits do not cover her expenses and are currently scheduled to run out December 24th, 2020.
I hope this GoFundMe campaign will raise enough money for her to stay in her home, as well as cover her expenses through the summer of 2021, when we hope to move her closer to her remaining family. Her monthly expenses include her mortgage payment, truck payment, utilities, taxes and food.
