Support the Vaughan Family After the Eaton Fire

Tuesday, February 4 marks four weeks since the Eaton Fire began and instantly altered the lives of thousands of people. The Vaughans were one of many families that were able to celebrate that their house miraculously survived the devastating fires, only to quickly realize the uphill battle they were about to climb (their renter’s insurance was cancelled a few months prior without notifying them, displacement, changing hotels every few days, their son’s school burning down, FEMA paperwork, negotiating with their landlord, and getting estimates from fire remediation companies).

Due to the intensity of the winds, the window in their daughter’s room blew open exposing their house to an extensive amount of smoke and ash damage. FEMA, the insurance adjuster, and several remediation consultants have all deemed the house unsafe to live in at this time without a significant and professional cleaning. Along needing to replace much of their belongings including mattresses, bedding, rugs, toys, furniture, clothing, food, etc., they were also notified that their landlord’s insurance company will only cover 1/4 of the estimated cost to clean/decontaminate their house which includes replacing insulation, cleaning their HVAC and air ducts, chemical washing the exterior, air scrubbing the interior to remove the smoke smell, removing ash, and decontaminating the walls, floors, and ceilings.

This is where you come in. We are asking you to support the Vaughans in raising funds not only to replace the belongings they lost to fire damage but also to raise money to help make their house a safe and livable space for their two children (with a third on the way). Anything beyond what will cover their immediate needs will be shared directly with the plethora of other Altadena families in need.
