Hello, my name is Austin Sherrill, and Featherheads has been our family business for 30 years.

As many of you know, the village of Chimney Rock has been devastated by recent floods. This place is not just my childhood home; it’s where my mother, Kim Sherrill, dedicated her life. After three decades of operating the beloved Featherheads, we are heartbroken to announce that the business has been destroyed by the floodwaters from Hurricane Helene.

My mother raised two children on her own, pouring her heart into the community and the cherished customers who have supported us over the years. She was just months away from her retirement—a time she dreamed of enjoying the fruits of her labor. Now, all of that has been taken away.

I’m creating this GoFundMe to support a woman who has always given back to her community. Owning a business in this area has never been about wealth; it’s been about survival. Many business owners, including my mom, lived above their stores, working hard during the summers to make it through the winters. Tragically, much of the damage in Chimney Rock, Bat Cave, and Lake Lure will not be covered by insurance.

By some miracle, my mother and brother had moved from the village just weeks before the floodwaters rose. I am forever grateful for their safety, but now we must focus on rebuilding.
