Support the Mason Family

On January 7, Brian Mason lost his battle with cancer. He was only 46 years old.

Brian was born and raised in Utah. He was an avid lover of sports, especially football (Go Utes!!) but most of all, his love for his family and friends were what he will be most remembered for.

Brian met Michelle in college, but started dating in 1997. They were married in August of 1999. After years of fertility struggles they decided to adopt, welcoming Ella in 2005 and Paige in 2006. His girls were the loves of his life.

In 2011 the family was transferred from Utah to Rocklin, CA for Brian’s job. He worked at Herc Rental for over 20 years. They settled into their new home and then, in October of 2012, the family got devastating news: he was diagnosed with neck cancer. He battled and won, but in 2016 he developed lung cancer. Then, after just finishing that battle, he developed rectal cancer in mid 2017. He spent the summer fighting and then the horrible shock: the cancer was discovered in his liver last fall.

He fought a long and hard battle, trying to stay strong for his family. He worked when he could, tried to exercise to stay healthy. But his body could no longer fight the battle his mind was waging against the cancer. He passed away, surrounded by family, this past Sunday.

Brian’s only wish was that Michelle and his girls be okay. He loved them more than anything.

All of their family and friends live in Salt Lake and Provo, Utah. Brian’s wishes are to be laid to rest in Salt Lake City.

We are wanting to raise money for Michelle and their girls, Ella and Paige. After 5 long years battling cancer there are lots of medical bills, plus funeral costs (the funeral will be in Utah so there will be travel expenses too) and regular household expenses. Brian was the main wage earner in the household so it is now left to Michelle to support their girls and the house.

I came into the Mason’s lives just a year and a half ago. Our daughters became friends and something that has always struck me about their family is their strength. The road they’ve been on has been a horrible one, full of potholes and cracks, but through it all they are stronger together. The hole they have in their lives now is more than any family should have to bear.

Thank you for any help you can give. Our goal is to make it so that Michelle doesn’t have to worry about every day problems while she is dealing with her grief. Brian will be missed by so many, but thankfully his spirit lives on in his girls and his family.
