Whether you call her Alex, Alexandra, Ate, Lax, Profe Ale, Ats, or something else entirely, today, February 24th is Alexandra Chewning's birthday. The love we have for her is only paralleled by the love that she had for children and the most vulnerable among us.

In celebration of her birthday and in honor of the love and care which she gave and which endures, we are continuing to raising funds for the children of La Estancia de San Gertrudis in Danlí, Honduras (Alex's Peace Corps site). La Estancia de San Gertrudis is a school located in Danlí, Honduras which provides education, meals, social services, and other resources to at-risk children.

Thanks to funds raised so far, Berta, Alex's friend and counterpart, has been able to work with the La Estancia team (including some of Alex's former students) to build a library at La Estancia in her honor. This library, "La Biblioteca Lúdica Alexandra Chewning", also serves as a classroom where mental health and wellness sessions are held for the La Estancia children.

La Estancia is continuing to serve some of Honduras' most vulnerable youth and families during the pandemic and in the aftermath of several devastating hurricanes which have recently hit the country. Students are now back in-person at La Estancia and donations will go towards providing meals, shoes, uniforms, and personal health kits (soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, disinfectant, etc) to kids and their families.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated in the past and want to emphasize that, while a donation is much appreciated, it is not expected, as we recognize what a challenging time this has been for so many.
