Support The Goovaerts Family

On January 20th, the day before his 42nd birthday, my brother Jason was diagnosed with Brain Cancer.  He had a headache that got progressively worse over the course of 5 days, and at the insistence of his wife Tammy he went to the hospital where a CT scan revealed 2 tumours.  One is quite large and growing at the back of his skull, the second and smaller one is pushing up against his right eye.

The doctors haven’t been able to tell us anything more than that as of yet; not the type of cancer, not the prognosis, not the treatment plan.  His future that was once “normal” and consisting of gym, work, family, repeat, has now been replaced with uncertainty, fear, fight and repeat.  The only thing the doctors can say for sure right now is that Jason’s battle is not going to be quick or easy…it’s not going to be weeks…it’s going to take months for him to beat this.

Jason is the primary bread winner for his family:  Tammy, his wife and partner of more than 20 years, and their three children, Kolton, Jordyn and Spencer.  Kolton, 18, is set to graduate this coming June, Jordyn is 14, and Spencer is just 6 years old.  They need their dad, and he needs them, particularly Tammy, to be by his side every day to fight this.  He needs her there to go to doctor’s appointments with him and remember things when he can’t, he needs her to ask questions when he’s too afraid to ask, he needs her to sit in the waiting room when he’s undergoing treatment so he knows there’s someone in his corner, and he needs her to lie with him at night and just be there.  He needs her to do all of these things so he can fight.  But in order to be there for him, Tammy can’t be at work.

Worrying about how they are going to pay the bills over the coming weeks is going to take away the energy Jason needs to fight this battle.  Not just everyday bills like the mortgage, car payments, and electricity, but also those associated with supporting Jason in this fight; hotel stays for Tammy, gas to travel back and forth to Victoria, food and more.  Anyone who knows Jason and Tammy will know that it is with great reluctance that they have allowed me to post this and ask others for financial help, however, faced with the gravity of this situation, they have quickly realized they cannot do this alone.

On behalf of Jason, Tammy, and the rest of our family, thank you for anything you can give to support this fight for his life.
