Support the Gepperts
"I refuse to give up on him': Fundraiser created to help Milwaukee firefighter who suffered multiple strokes" - this is the headline CBS58 used when Derek and Melissa Geppert were on the news sharing their story with the world for the first time.
Derek Geppert at the young age of 35-years-old, a firefighter with the Milwaukee Fire Department for over five years, had his first stroke in February 2016.
It was only 3 months later that his wife, Melissa was diagnosed with Leukemia (cancer). The two worked together to support their three children during this tough time.
While Melissa was battling cancer, Derek suffered five more large strokes. At that point, doctors were giving up hope. After several treatments, therapies, and diet change, Derek was fighting for his life. He never gave up on himself, children, or wife.
Melissa could not accept that Derek would never get better OR wouldn't survive. She searched for ways to get her husband back. She began looking for other options for therapy where she learned about Brain Training.
Derek was tested and was told he would be an excellent candidate for the therapy. Melissa and the family are hoping this therapy will help Derek live a more "normal for him" life, including to be able to drive again.
Our #1 goal is to have continuous financial support for the Geppert's. This fund will help pay for Derek's further recovery, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and to help Melissa with any other expenses.
