<div>My name is Edward Fong, the youngest son, and I have been the primary caretaker of our parents for years. My father, Vincent Fong, passed on January 4th this year and lost his battle with dementia that became full blown Alzeimer's, and that alone drained most of our savings for his care in the past several years.

<div>His condition first started back in 2005, when a serious bout of pneumonia caused him to go into a coma, and it led to various health issues, from his heart, lungs (one of them became collapsed and having severe COPD) and eventually dementia throughout the 2010s, and then into Alzheimer's in the 2020s, before his passing this past January.

<div>At the time, I just started college, so it put me into a challenging position immediately, that my father fell ill as quickly as he did, and how his overall health gradually begin to deteriorate over the years.
</div>

<div>My Mom had been battling her own case of mental illness in the stress and depression in seeing the state of her soul mate getting worse, year by year. She did her best to push forward in making the best of the situation, from trying to support the family to being the literal anchor that kept everything afloat.
</div>

<div>I credit so much in how strong she had to be, and endure all the constant challenges that this family had to overcome. Much of how I care and have sympathy for others is because of her.
</div>

<div>My parents were hard working immigrants that wanted to start a new life and opportunity in America, coming from China almost half a century ago. They married back in 1976 and were a perfect match, wanting to raise a family and start a new beginning together.
</div>

</div>
<div>They worked all sorts of jobs, sometimes multiple jobs, whatever it took to make ends meet, in order to raise my brother and I, and to have a roof over our heads and food at the table. It was their American dream to give my brother and I the opportunity at it also.
</div>

<div>I'm also currently taking care of my older brother too, who is legally blind (can only see up close) and autistic (learning disability and mental developmental disorder), so it's been an incredible uphill to balance with.
</div>

<div>It's been difficult for my Mom, still not fully being able to recover from the loss of our Dad, spiraling into a depression, and as our sons, doing our very best to support her. We felt she made a breakthrough with her life this month, a glimmer of hope that things will turn around as Thanksgiving was approaching.
</div>

<div>Alas, Nancy Fong had a serious fall this past Tuesday on 11/26/2024, dealing with pneumonia, and she hit her head on the bathroom floor, which led to being rushed to the local hospital here at Corewell Dearborn in Michigan.
</div>

</div>
<div>She had to undergo an emergency craniectomy (removing part of the skull) to save her life, in order to relieve the pressure pushed onto her head, as she had severe bleeding in the brain that possibly has led to permanent brain damage. There is a very realistic chance, she will be bed ridden and fed through a feeding tube on life support.
</div>

<div>She's fighting for her life, and we're hoping she'll survive, but the grim reality is she likely won't, due to the severity of the brain injury.
</div>

</div>
<div>As her sons, she's the only family we have left around here, and it's been torture to try to communicate to her, but to only get blank expressions, that the mother we know is no longer there. We hold her hands, crying and praying for anyone to answer our plea to give our Mom back to us.
</div>

<div>This has happened at a horrible time for our family, as we just lost our father this past January 4th, a few days after the New Year, to now our mother having her tragic head injury fall a few days before Thanksgiving.
</div>

</div>
<div>We are at a total loss that both our parents may be gone in under a year, and both coming around the holidays.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>We don't have much and could use the help in possible funeral expenses or long term care in this extraordinarily difficult and challenging time. </strong>
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>The donations will be used, if the worst outcome were to happen and our Mom passes on, for her casket, vault, and burial plot. If she can be saved neurologically somehow, it'll be for her possible long term care and expenses.</strong>
