Help Grow a Greener Future with the Capers Bucket Brigade!

Imagine harvesting fresh veggies right from your doorstep—no garden needed! The Bucket Brigade is on a mission to make home gardening accessible to everyone by providing free grow bags, soil, starter plants, and expert guidance from Master Gardeners which is a volunteer program which trains people in the science and art of gardening. Event will be held at Enon Chapel Baptist Church 333 Freedom Way on Saturday February 22 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM, First Come First Serve.

The Bucket Brigade is an established program local to Onslow County through the Extension Master Gardeners and the Salvation Army that promotes healthy communities by teaching first steps to raising fresh vegetables in a free portable bucket garden! Many people want to grow their own food but don’t know where to start. That’s where we come in! Our hands-on method teach beginners the first steps to growing fresh, healthy produce, empowering families to cultivate their own food and reduce grocery costs.

Why is it called the Capers Bucket Brigade?

It's in honor of Onslow County's local hero Major James Capers USMC, Retired, Veteran of the Vietnam War and First Black Marine to Command a Force Recon Company along with honors such as the Silver Star, Two Bronze Stars, "V" for Valor; and Nominee for medal of honor. And still continues to do good in his community to this day by providing hope and joy to the people.

The Bucket Brigade is more than just a gardening event—it’s a movement toward self-sufficiency, better nutrition, stronger communities, and providing a way for those with less income to better save. By donating, you’re giving someone the tools and knowledge to grow their own food, one bucket at a time.
