Donate to support the Legacy of Lane Leedahl

So many of us know Lane as a coach, a teacher, and a friend. What he was most proud of was being a husband to Skye (URI professor in Human Development and Family Science) and father of Finn and Raye. A conversation with Lane never passed without him sharing a story about his family and just how amazing they are. I think we all agree, he was right. There is not a more compassionate, brave and loving family around. As proud as Lane was of his family, they are equally proud of him. Unfortunately, Lane passed away on November 16, 2024 after a courageous fight with a BEAR named cancer. He wanted it to be known that cancer didn’t get him, so a BEAR seemed appropriate.
Honoring a life well-lived is always a daunting task. To adequately honor the life of Lane Leedahl seems like an impossible task, but one that has to be done- for him and all who love him. Lane was a champion of all people, children and adults alike. He found the good in every person he met; somehow, the person became that amazing person he believed in - because he did. When Lane was asked how he was he always responded, “Blessed.” He found blessings in every situation, hardship, and twist of his journey. His optimism was contagious and a gift to all who knew him.
Lane was a coach, teacher and mentor to innumerable children. Lane could often be heard saying, “Ball is life.” The lessons he taught his team on the court were not solely to win a game, tournament, or title. His lessons were about life, community, showing up for each other, determination, and never, ever, giving up without a good fight. In the classroom Lane was a fierce champion of all students. He never shied away from a hard conversation and speaking the truth in order to help a child. He led his classroom with compassion, honesty, and integrity in the forefront of all he did.
In order to honor Lane and his legacy, we are planning to create the BLESSED Foundation. The money raised through this campaign will be used to support Lane’s family through this difficult time and a portion of the money will continue the work that Lane began by lifting up members of the community. It would mean the world to all those who love him if you considered donating to his family and to the Foundation. It is the goal that the money raised through this GoFundMe will provide the seed funds to start this Foundation. The family is currently seeking a 501c(3) designation and this money will go directly to support it when it is up and running. May the work of the Foundation continue the ripple that Lane began; that we always remember to show up for each other, say the hard things and never, ever, give up hope and find that silver lining. We truly were BLESSED… and we will be forever thankful.
