hello everyone,

thanks for visiting us here.

Roy is 42 years old, a loving, caring, generous, devoted father and husband with a wicked sense of humour.  Roy received sad news back in December 2013  when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. The shocking news hit Roy, his beautiful wife Joanne, son Keenan who is just 14 years old, and his many close family and friends, very hard.

its been a constant battle for this lovely family and there have been many ups and downs throughout their journey. Treatment is aggressive and has to date involved chemo to keep the cancer under control but there is no cure for this cancer so Roy is about to start stem cell transplant treatment which involves intricate and complicated transfer of cells, and intense chemo. Roy is going to be very poorly while he undergoes this treatment.

Trying to process this is very difficult for the family and their nearest and dearest. Despite it all, and every hurdle they face, their strength and positivity shines through. They really are inspirational.

While trying to process this, Roy and Joanne started to contact their insurance companies, in the hope of reclaiming some loss of earnings / funds to cover majors expenses such as their mortgage and frequently travelling to Christies Hospital from Rossendale, for treatment and care.  They felt confident they were covered.  However it transpires they aren't!! The prospects of losing 2 salaries with little support and benefits is daunting and frightening, it's causing more stress for them at a time when they need all their strength to get through this next phase of treatment.

we've set this page up in the hope that we can raise some money to help make things a little easier for the family, and to free them of some of their worries, while they try to get through the next stage of treatment. All money raised will be used by the family to help them get through this journey, it will be used to fund travelling costs to get them to Christies Hospital, for family days out and, if Roy is up to it, possibly a weekend in the lakes which is something the family enjoyed doing when Roy was fit, before he took critically ill. They also need to spend several thousands on converting the family bathroom to make it more accessible and useable and every penny raised will be a massive help for them. You never know, it might even help to get Roy & Keenan to get to Rovers match - anyone who knows Roy knows he's a big Blackburn Rovers fan.

Friends and family have arranged various activities to try and raise funds , these include Andrew Ellis doing a skydive Saturday 17th May, a car boot sale at their local pub, The Rose & Crown in Haslingden, sponsored head shaves / hair dyes. Updates and photos from the events will be posted & shared with you here, to keep you in the loop.

we'll post regular updates and photos to confirm how the funds will be used so all that we ask is that you can donate something, no matter how small to this amazing family who need a little bit of help and support right now.

Thanks so much for reading this and thanks in advance for your generosity and support. Let's try and help support the family through this very tough time.
