On January 28th, Tara received a gift of life - a new kidney. Almost 18 years ago, at the age of 15, Tara was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that attacked her kidneys. We were told that day so long ago that she would need a transplant one day. The day came, and Tara received her kidney on 1/28/25. She is doing amazing and has total kidney function. We could not be happier.
When she gets discharged from the hospital, she will have to stay in Portland for at least four weeks. She will have many doctor appointments before she is allowed to go home.
Once she gets home, there will still be many restrictions for the first three months. Tara is a Special Education Teacher at Athena Elementary School. She is unsure as to when she will be healed enough to go back to work full-time.
Anything that you can do to help my daughter is greatly appreciated.
