Meet Tara,
a kind, resilient, and endlessly creative soul who has been living with ALS for the past 7 years. Those who know her best describe her as a chatty, mischievous firecracker with a heart full of love and laughter. Before ALS took away her ability to create art and speak freely, she was a passionate artist who found beauty in the world and expressed it through her work. Even now, her creativity shines through in the way she finds joy in the little things, like her beloved dog, Cookie.

Cookie is more than just a pet; she’s Tara’s constant companion, emotional support, and source of endless smiles. This sweet, lazy little Shih Tzu has been by her side for almost 7 years, and their bond is truly special. Whether she’s sunbathing in the brightest spot in the house or giving Tara "that look" when she’s feeling sad, Cookie has a way of making even the hardest days a little brighter.

But living with ALS has become increasingly difficult for Tara. A year ago, she was forced to stop taking Rilutek (Riluzole), the only medication proven to slow the progression of ALS, because it became unaffordable. Without this medication, her symptoms have worsened, and every day feels like an uphill battle. Her current wheelchair no longer meets her needs. It requires someone to push her, and without a headrest to support her weakening neck muscles, she’s been confined to her home for almost a year, unable to go outside or enjoy the world beyond her walls.

The costs of essential therapies (like occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychological support) have also become overwhelming. These therapies are crucial for Keeping her physical and mental health, but they’re no longer within reach. And with the added burden of rent, Tara is facing an impossible choice between her basic needs and the care that keeps her going.

To help Tara afford the medication she desperately needs, purchase a power wheelchair with a headrest, and cover the costs of her essential therapies. But we’re not stopping there. Once we reach our initial goal, we’re aiming for a stretch goal to purchase a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. This vehicle would give Tara the freedom to leave her home, attend therapy, and spend time outdoors with Cookie, something she hasn’t been able to do in months.
That’s why we're starting this fundraiser.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in Tara’s life. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family would mean the world to her. Together, we can help Tara and Cookie continue to share their special bond and face each day with hope, dignity, and a little more freedom.

Thank you for taking the time to read Tara’s story and for any support you can offer. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.
