Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,
We are reaching out to you to ask for your support for an incredible woman, Tami Lane, who is facing one of the toughest battles of her life.
Right after Burning Man this year, after a routine check up, Tami received the shocking news that she has stage 3 Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It originated somewhere in her GI tract and has spread to her abdomen. She is receiving excellent medical care with specialists in New Orleans, and treatment (chemo and radiation) starts in early November.
Tami is a light to her friends and her community. She always offers support, helps find solutions, and loves to put in the hard work. She cares deeply about people, and loves to be of service - whether that is making sure folks are fed and hydrated as part of the Life Support Services team for Burning Man’s Gate, Perimeter and Exodus department, or by leading builds and projects with Thunderdome. She’s organized, she’s efficient, she is a total badass babe, and now it’s our turn to help support her.
Cancer is a big, complicated process. We, Tami’s friends and community, are asking for your help to support her as she bravely faces the next few months of treatment.
Tami is lucky enough to have a good job and access to insurance. However, the rigorous treatment schedule ahead will mean time off work (without sick pay) for medical appointments and recovery, significant out of pocket medical co-pays, and additional self-care needs as the treatment makes every daily task harder. This sudden change has placed a tremendous financial strain on her and makes it harder to focus on her health and recovery.
Can you help alleviate these financial burdens that come with cancer treatment:
- Daily living expenses and bills while she is unable to work
- Transportation to and from medical appointments
- Coverage for lost wages and income from her primary job
- Helping to cover over $10,000 in medical costs that she must pay out of pocket before her insurance will cover treatments
We know that times are tough all around these days. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on Tami’s journey to recovery. Your support will allow her to focus on healing without the added stress of financial worries.
Let’s come together to help ease her journey, as she has helped us all in so many different ways.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity.
With love and gratitude,
Folks Who Love Tami (& Tami too)
