Hello this is my Son Kel’Vonta Polen better known as Tae. Let me first say WE MADE IT! This has been a long process Tae was diagnosed with a rare form of Ulcertive Colitis in 2013 we never knew what was wrong and as time has went on things took a turn for the worst causing him to have to get a ileostomy bag countless hospital stays and surgeries, we’ve seen a total of 68 doctors to get to this point From Montgomery Alabama Specialists, to Birmingham Alabama Children Hospital, to South Carolina MUSC, ICU, Blood Transfusion. Tae has been placed on at least 126 medications, pick lines just to eat and maintain his weight and health not being able to eat real food and more medication to only find out he has an underline issue called XIAP ("XIAP disease" refers to X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) deficiency, a rare genetic disorder known as XLP-2. It is characterized by an overactive immune response, leading to severe infections, recurrent fevers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and a high risk of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), often triggered by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. The only current curative treatment is hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). We have tried everything only to end back up at the drawing board. 2018 it was told he would need a Bone Marrow Transplant well from then to present day we have found a donor!!!!!! God is amazing! With this surgery Tae has a greater chance to have is ileostomy bag removed and be as normal as me and you. We tried to verse his bag a few years back and he became hospitalized for 2 1/2 months due to his illness and many complications that almost cost him his life. This has been a long road of tears restless nights and not knowing the known or even the unknowns for his life but God. In a few short weeks Tae will be going through 1 week of extreme Chemotherapy to get ready for his bone marrow transplant. We need all the support we can get to make this transition a pleasant one. Tae has Blue Cross Blue Shield leaving us with a few out of pocket expenses. Nothing is to big or too small to help us in this time with Chemotherapy, the Bone Marrow Transplant, and after care expenses as he will have to travel to the hospital 2x a week as well as stay 8 weeks or longer at CHOA in Atlanta Georgia which the Aflac Team of doctors and physicians will be handling his care our goal is for $15k and I pray as a Mother we meet this goal as all we will be waiting to pay his portion and to handle buying things he needs as this is a sterilized and delicate procedure that’s going to cost, to keep him from being sick so that the transplant takes 100% if you find this message even if it’s a prayer my Family will be grateful and thankful. Thank you in advance and I pray God blesses you and your family for taking the time to think of me and my Son and our Family during this time God Bless you - A Mother
