 On April 17, 2026, 30 year old Sy Moran had a devastating accident. Sy suffered a seizure while riding a ski resort chairlift with athletes he was coaching. The seizure caused him to fall roughly 40 feet from the chairlift onto firm, icy snow. He was rushed to the local hospital, and then immediately transported to the Trauma ICU in Reno, NV, where he underwent emergency spinal surgery, lasting 8+ hours, to stabilize extensive damage to his spine. Sy suffered a cardiac arrest during this surgery, and was successfully resuscitated.

 Since then it has been a very challenging time, filled with numerous surgeries, intensive life support, and much uncertainty. Sy spent nearly 60 days in the trauma ICU in Reno, before being transferred back to Colorado via a medical flight. Since then, his condition has stabilized. He has been sharing time between St Anthony’s hospital, and PAM Speciality Hospital, where he remains currently. At the time of writing this, Sy has been in the hospital over 150 days.

 Sy has been fighting incredibly hard. His spirit simply refused to give up, and we are happy to say that he is now in a medically stable condition, and that his cognitive function has made a full recovery. He has made tremendous progress and has come unbelievably far over the last five months. However, it has not been an easy path to get here, and we are very sad to say that Sy has suffered life-changing injuries.

 Sy has sustained a spinal cord injury, and as of now, is paralyzed from roughly the waist down (T7/T8). He also had to undergo an amputation of his lower left leg, a procedure that was necessary to save his life. He has suffered many broken bones (including a femur, tibia and fibula, multiple vertebrae, clavicle, and 14 ribs; 4 of which are separated from the spine), a traumatic brain injury, and internal organ damage. Sy was heavily reliant on life support to keep him alive, spending 2 months on a ventilator and kidney dialysis. During his time in Reno, CPR was initiated 3 separate times to resuscitate Sy. He had many close calls and was truly fighting for his life. However, anyone who knows Sy, will not be surprised to hear that he is fighting hard, and is attacking this endeavor with the positive attitude and infectious humor that we all cherish.

 He now has his sights set on Craig Rehab Center. While he continues to progress toward that goal, he is still looking at several months of hospital time, and a few more challenging procedures and surgeries before that next step. His mind is as sharp, witty, and resilient as ever, but he is facing a reality that looks entirely different from the one he knew five months ago.

 Sy dedicated his life to snowboarding, since riding his first chair lift at seven years old. He has traveled the world with his snowboard, competing and filming video projects with his incredible style. After his professional career, Sy transitioned to coaching. He has a deep love for the culture of snowboarding, and is passionate about sharing it with the world and passing it on to the next generation. He has left a true impact on the athletes who worked with him. Sy, and all those around him, are so thankful for the community and lifelong friendships he has forged in this world thanks to snowboarding. Relationships that we know will continue long into this next chapter of Sy’s life.

 Sy is an incredible spirit; living large and going big. Anyone who knows Sy, knows the joy he brings into every room, and the passion, loyalty, and care that he brings to the ones he loves. He is truly one of the best people I know. This has been made evident since his injury by the amount of people ready to support him in these trying times. The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming. A beautiful reflection of the love he has given over the years. He is known and loved by so many, and we can see it coming back to him now.

 Sy has a long and difficult road ahead to heal, rehab, and to rise again, but he is ready for the fight. His attitude and outlook during this entire undertaking has been inspiring to watch. There have been plenty of hard moments, but Sy’s humor, joy, and genuine care and kindness for others has prevailed through it all. He is a constant reminder to be better, and to attack every problem with a positive attitude and hard work.

 Sy survived what should have taken him from us. Now, we are fighting alongside him for his future.

 The road ahead is long, and will have many battles. Between ongoing medical care, specialized therapies, home accessibility modifications, and prosthetic care, the financial challenge is overwhelming. We are reaching out in hopes of easing some of this burden, so that Sy can focus on learning to navigate this new life.
