Help recovery of the earthquake-affected community of Suzu

Hello, we SuperDuo are a musical duo, chromatic harmonica player Shima Kobayashi and pianist Midori Tamura. We are community-based musicians in UK and in Japan respectively, and hold a joint concert annually.

This year our concert will be for charities that improve the emotional welfare of the earthquake-affected community in Japan, and we are hoping to collect donations through online streaming as well as at the in-person performance.

Our target is £500, specifically for the community in Suzu city, Ishikawa prefecture, Japan, which suffered a catastrophic damage repeatedly from a M7.6 earthquake on New Year's Day 2024 and a once-in-a-century torrential rainfall of over 300mm precipitation over two days in the following September.

The city was grievously hit by these recurring disasters losing many lives to the deluge and landslides and left with infrastructure in ruin.

Suzu's geographic limited accessibility, along with the major routes heavily destructed, meant the reconstruction work slow and lengthy, leaving many families still in temporary housing even after a year.

The concert will be held on Sunday 16th March.

During the concert we would like to bring the feeling of the Suzu community close to the heart of the audience.

In order to achieve this, we have created a special introductory film of the region that features picturesque scenery before the earthquake, making use of images from a local independent film with a special permission from the creators.

We will also bring the local salt, Suzu’s speciality, produced using the traditional methods and invite the audience to taste the rich natural flavour of the sea.

As this concert will be streamed online, not only the people of Suzu will be able to enjoy the performance but also people who are forced to live away from home after evacuation will be able to enjoy the music with their home community. We are told that the Suzu community is very excited about this opportunity.

The road to the full restoration may be still long and difficult, but we are hoping through this concert to bring hope to the community, sending the positive message that there are people, even thousand miles away, whose hearts go out to them, wishing the quickest recovery of the city, and hoping to visit the city one day.

The good people of St. Mary's Church, the Japanese community in UK, and our friends from both UK and Japan are all helping the preparation of the concert to make sure everyone will have a good time.

We aim to send people's warm messages along with the donations collected both in person and through crowdfunding.

The donor will receive a link to the charity concert (the archive will be available after the live stream).

The raised fund will be sent to the local charities which promote the welfare and recovery work of Suzu city.

こんにちは。私たちはSuperDuoとして活動する演奏家です。

日本とイギリスそれぞれの地で地域密着型の音楽家活動をしており、年に１度一緒にコンサートをしています。

今年は、イギリスでチャリティコンサートを開催することにしました。会場での寄付金を募ると同時に、クラウドファンディングでも寄付を募り、併せて届けたいと思っています。

クラウドファンディングを通じて珠洲市のコミュニティのために500ポンドを募っています。

2024年元旦の能登半島地震と同年9月の奥野と豪雨は各地に大きな被害をもたらし、尊い命が犠牲となり、多くの方が避難を余儀なくされました。

特に被害の大きかった珠洲では、生活の再建が進んでいますが、復興への道のりは困難の連続で疲労感と孤立感が高まっていると言われています。

そこで私たちは、イギリスで、現地の方々や在英日本人の皆様の協力をいただきながら手作りのチャリティーコンサートを開催することにしました。

まだ復興への道のりは長いと思いますが、海外からも、震災で傷ついた珠洲の方がたを想い復興を願う人たちがいること、いつか訪れてみたいと思う人たちがいると感じてもらえることで少しでも元気を送ることができたらというのがコンサートのねらいです。

会場を提供して下さったSt Mary`s Churchの皆さん、英国在住の日本人の皆さんやイギリス人の友人たち皆で、良い時間になるように準備しています。それに、クラウドファンディングを通じても応援してくださる方の思いも併せて、集まったお金を届けたいと思っています。
