Sueños Sin Fronteras Mobile Clinic

My name is Laura Molinar and I am the founder of a grassroots health and social services initiative in San Antonio, TX called, Sueños Sin Fronteras. Our initiative responds to the immediate, short-term, and long-term medical and social needs of children and families impacted by immigration; and to coordinate response, actions, and a model of support between our city, as well as in other sanctuary municipalities across the United States.

For the past 4 months, our initiative has traveled to the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, TX to provide direct medical aid and support to the families being released from Customs Border Patrol custody. One of our main aims of our initiative is to respond to the needs as they change and evolve. As of October 2018, migrant families are still being detained by ICE at the Karnes and Dilley Detention Centers. Upon their release, families are bussed to the San Antonio bus station where they embark on a cross-country journey to their asylum cities. Many of these families at the bus station suffer from upper respiratory infections, influenza, pregnancy complications, dehydration, etc. Recent and scathing reports have shed light on the unethical, inhumane, and unsanitary conditions at these detention centers. This is a public health and humanitarian crisis that must be addressed.

Suenos Sin Fronteras is thrilled to announce that we are developing a pilot mobile clinic program that would offer acute medical care, and medical/social services resources to families coming from Karnes, Dilley, and other areas along the Texas border. This mobile clinic would be the first of its kind to exist in San Antonio. Having a mobile clinic of this kind would be integral in meeting this vulnerable and unique population exactly where they are at. In addition to providing acute medical care to families, volunteers would provide a list of social and medical resources that are specific to the region that they are traveling to. Our initiative is currently working on establishing and connecting with immigrant support networks across the country that would provide wrap-around social and medical resources to the families passing through Texas. In the case that a patient is in need of serious medical attention, volunteer physicians can refer them to free and low-cost clinics in our nationwide networks. We understand that the road ahead for many of these families is not an easy one. They will go through the challenge of navigating the legal system, finding work, educating their children, and simply doing anything necessary to survive. For many of these families, their health is the least of their concern. Our project aims to address these existing barriers by administering free, preventive, comprehensive, and sustainable medical care and social resources.

Suenos Sin Fronteras is a grassroots initiative with no access to funding at the moment, therefore we rely heavily on the support of our friends, families, allies, and communities in San Antonio and across the country.  We are asking for your assistance in our efforts to bring back humanity to this country. The money we raise through this GoFundMe will directly support our organization— which includes the development and coordination of this mobile clinic in San Antonio, as well as our current efforts in advocacy, outreach, and direct assistance to the families we are helping across the country.

Join us in being on the right side of history by helping us welcome our brothers and sisters into a life of prosperity and health that is life free of violence and discrimination.
