Support Stanley (and fight DMD)

Donation protected
Two months ago, Kirstie and Rob's lives were turned upside down.

Their six-year-old son, Stanley (pictured to the right of the above photo), has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a disorder of progressive muscle weakness, characterised by muscle loss in the upper legs and pelvis, followed by the upper arms.

Before Stanley turns nine, he will require a special stroller or scooter to help him get around.

By the time Stanley is 12, he will find it hard to stand up and may not be able to walk.

By the time he is 15 Stanley will be confined to his wheelchair. Life-threatening heart and respiratory conditions will see him suffer shortness of breath, fluid in the lungs, swelling in the feet and lower legs, and an enlarged heart.

While we don't know the way ahead for Stanley, he will be lucky to make it to his 26th birthday.

Currently, there is no known cure for DMD. Treatment centres on making the patient more comfortable and trying to slow the progression of muscle weakness.

Stanley is very lucky to have a wonderful eight-year-old big brother and an amazing mum and dad, who are doing it tough but being so brave themselves.

They have even had to sell thier much-loved home to help fund the way forward.

We are reaching out to everyone who might be able to help Stanley. Wheelchairs are very expensive and it would be wonderful to know that he will have access to the best possible care.

From forgoing your morning coffee or a dinner out, every cent you donate will be HUGELY appreciated.
