Sparta was one of a few dogs found in a locked home in horrible conditions without food in Volgograd, Russia. All the dogs were filthy, malnourished, starving, and scared. Sparta was in the worst condition with a dislocated jaw and such severe muscular atrophy that she couldn’t stand. She was rescued by a kind woman named Natasha, who runs a rescue in Volgograd, and quickly took her to the vet where she was in critical condition for a few weeks. She was supposed to weigh around 25 pounds for a dog her size, but instead, she weighed 13 pounds. She couldn’t regulate her body temperature, so she had to sleep on heated blankets. She had to receive multiple blood transfusions. Miraculously, she survived. Little by little, she gained weight and became healthy enough to not only stand on her own but walk and run. Meanwhile, everyone working at the animal clinic fell in love with this sweet soul. She was eventually well enough to go live with a foster in Moscow. As her name suggests, she is a fighter. A Boston-based rescue named Paws and Tails works to bring these abused dogs to the US to get adopted out to their forever homes. Sparta is next. She has received all of her medical examinations and vaccines. She is just waiting to be brought over here. Unfortunately, it is not cheap to transport animals from a different country.
