<div>She had her bone marrow biopsy today. The procedure itself went well, and thankfully she doesn’t seem to be in pain from it — but one of the biopsy sites hasn’t stopped oozing and just isn’t clotting like it should. Her levels have dropped to an uncomfortable place, and she’s now receiving platelet and red blood cell transfusions, along with other medications to help support her clotting.

<div>Then the doctor came in with the words no parent ever wants to hear.

<div>We are officially transitioning care from the hospitalist team to the oncology team.

</div>

<div><strong>Sophie has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).</strong>

<div>Our sweet, brave, beautiful girl…

</div>

<div>We are still waiting on more details, including subtype, but they are moving quickly because <strong>this is something that cannot wait.</strong> Tomorrow, she will be placed under anesthesia again to have a central line inserted so that chemotherapy can begin as soon as possible.

<div>We are devastated. We are numb. We are holding each other and trying to breathe.

<div>To make things even harder, because Sophie is now immunocompromised, her daddy (Robert) is not able to be here at the hospital with us right now due to his shingles diagnosis. Please keep him in your prayers for healing and strength — it’s so painful for him not to be at her side.

<div>Please continue to lift up Sophie and our family in prayer — we need it now more than ever. We know this will be a long road, but we are walking it with all the love and courage we can find.
