We received very unfortunate news today. The large donations that pushed us beyond our goal were CANCELLED by Daffy due to "suspicious activity". I don't know what that means (was it a scam?) except that we don't have those funds. We have reopened the Go Fund Me for donations and praying for a miracle that we can get the funds by December 31, the contract deadline.
UPDATE!!! NOVEMBER 19. We have turned off donations for the Go Fund Me but leaving it visible. We are finalizing some documents for the state of Mississippi regarding our nonprofit charity status. We started this nonprofit in 2024 so being new, there are just some final documents to finish up for the state. Once we have the necessary things, we will be able to receive the funds. Once that is done we will close the Go Fund Me. PLEASE NOTE! EVERY PENNY donated will be used for beavers and this new property. Getting the property is step 1, steps 2 - infinity will be to transform this space into the ultimate BEAVER BELIEVER nature retreat and research hub. We will be sharing the journey every step of the way. We are beyond grateful!
NOVEMBER 14 UPDATE. we are cautiously optimistic that we have hit and exceeded our goal!! We are leaving it open for now while we work with GoFundMe to verify that there isn’t anything fraudulent happening with the donations. Once we are all comfortable that it’s good we will close the gofundme. Yall I’m trying to keep it all together! Stay tuned!!
OCTOBER 15, 2025 UPDATE!!!
The seller has graciously offered to extend our purchase contract! We will have new deadlines and goals to share soon.
Current TOTAL donations that include this Go Fund Me as well as other methods of donations equals $150,000. We did this in 60 days! Still short of the purchase price BUT now we have a bit more time. Goal for the next 60 days is to raise an additional $150,000. This will put us very close to the asking price. PLEASE continue to share. Crowdfunding is working! We are also hopeful that a strong donor is out there just waiting for the perfect nonprofit effort to donate to. Adorable beavers could be it!
Something Wild is a nonprofit based in Kiln, MS, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting Mississippi’s Beavers while connecting people to nature through research and education.
We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand our mission by purchasing a property less than a mile from our nonprofit sanctuary — currently used as an Airbnb. We envision transforming it into an eco-retreat, where visitors can stay overnight, explore our conservation work, tour Something Wild and know their stay directly supports wildlife rescue and research. This property will also be a hub for volunteers, interns and researchers. This property is just over an hour's drive from New Orleans, Louisiana.
