Let's help Smitty become an Elementary Teacher

Donation protected

For most of his life, Smitty and his mom, Mayra, only had each other. The bond between them was something to behold. They loved each other very much.

When she got sick with cancer, it was Smitty who became her constant caregiver. In her final months, she needed around-the-clock care, so unfortunately he had to drop out of college. This put his dream of becoming an elementary school teacher on hold.

In May, Mayra lost her battle with cancer. Smitty is only 20 and has no family and no support. And while he’s dealing with the grief of losing his sweet mom, he’s also trying to support himself and survive by working at Target. Our wish for him is that he can continue his college studies and get back on track to becoming a teacher.

For those of you who don't already know Smitty, we hope you have the pleasure of meeting him some day. He has a huge heart, is warm and funny, and always knows when you need a hug. He’s passionate about animals, loves to cook his mom’s favorite recipes, reads science fiction and is quite fashionable.

What stuns us most is that he is full of gratitude and has an amazingly positive attitude. He loves people and is great with children.

Smitty has spent his summers working at a summer camp, and has received a lot of praise for how energetic and engaging he is with the kids. We know he will make a terrific career educator. We want to help him make this happen!

If anyone deserves a break, it is this wonderful young man. The monies raised will help him cover his college expenses for the next three years, including books, fees, transportation and health care costs.

If you can find room in your hearts and budgets, please help us support this very special young man continue on his path toward becoming an elementary teacher.

Much love and so many thanks to our caring friends and community!!
