Support Sister’s Recovery

On December 14, 2019, at 7:30 am, this beautiful buckskin filly was shot at close range with a 12 gauge shotgun with #5 turkey shot in the gut and leg. She was standing beside her barn with four other horses, 30 yards from the road in broad daylight. Two young males drove by, stopped, and intentionally shot this filly for amusement, then sped off. A family member chased them at high speed to get a partial tag number and description, which enabled police to locate them later. This filly, named Sister, is not quite 2 years old, and is the prized horse of Anna Brown, a 21 year old nursing student. Sister was a gift to Anna, who has worked hard getting her ready to start training her to ride this spring.
Sister has an estimated 100 pellets in her abdomen and legs, and is in serious condition at Mississippi State Veterinary Hospital in Starkville, MS. The vet team at MS State is working tirelessly to treat her and have taken a special interest in this case. Her prognosis is still very guarded, as treatment will be long and difficult and the challenges are many. Veterinarians are assessing around the clock for internal bleeding, infection, gastrointestinal functions, and damage to joints and mobility, while also trying to keep her as comfortable as possible. Sister and her owner, Anna, did nothing to invite this heinous act of cruelty.
Anna will be busy starting her next semester of classes, while also caring for this special filly and demanding that the shooters face the justice deserved. The vet bills are already great and mounting. This beautiful filly and her sweet owner need prayers and support. If you can help with the mounting vet bills, it will be much appreciated. We all want to give Sister the best chance at recovery, and show the public that we do not stand for such senseless acts of cruelty. We will stand together to proclaim our support for Anna and Sister, and we will not tolerate cruelty such as this without a fight.
