My mom, Simona Chetan, is a strong, courageous person, with a huge heart. She is a joy to be around and is so extremely positive despite all the hard times she has had to go through. She was a very active person and spent most of her time rock climbing and hiking, which had become her new passions. She always pushed herself to try harder and do better, being a huge inspiration for our family.
What Happened
August 3rd, 2018 marked the beginning of a new journey and fight. On this day she decided to go rock climbing at her frequent gym. Unfortunately it did not go as planned. After not being properly tied in, the rope gave way and she fell 30 feet, landing on her backside. She had a spinal dislocation fracture at T11 and T12 upon impact and was rushed to the hospital to undergo an emergency spinal fusion to stabilize her spine and prevent any further damage.
Looking Ahead
She had an incomplete spinal fracture and due to the nature of this injury, professionals are unable to give us a clear prognosis. However, she came out of the surgery a paraplegic: having little to no sensation or movement below the waist. As you can imagine this news was heartbreaking for her and her family especially because she lived a very active lifestyle. We are still unsure of what the final outcome will be and we are hoping and praying for the best, but we need your help. Two weeks after the surgery Simona was in intensive care and in-patient rehab focusing on letting her back heal. However, she hopes to transfer to an intensive rehabilitation center to focus on her new goal: To walk again. We are trying to raise money to support my mom in this fight of her life, to help pay for medical bills and equipment, home modifications, transportation, rehab, other needs, and financial stressors so she can focus on one thing: getting better.
We appreciate all the love, support, and prayers, as we follow this next journey through life. Throughout all of this she continues to stay positive and have strength, and it's all due to the friends and family that keep her strong. Thank you!
