Support Shelter Dogs

Dogs at animal shelters are inherently in a stressful environment. These dogs benefit from enrichment activities such as training, exercise and play time. By participating in these enrichment opportunities, dogs are less stressed and, as a result, become more adoptable. To make their stay there more enjoyable, a group of volunteers at Seattle Humane in Bellevue Washington would like to start a nose work program in order to provide a wider variety of activities for the dogs housed at the shelter.
Nose work (also called scent work) is an exercise that allows the dog to use their natural ability to sniff out and detect scent. Dogs start by searching for high-value treats hidden in a variety of locations. As they advance and become more proficient, they learn to search for dog-safe scented oils.
Nose work provides mental stimulation and burns physical energy. It’s wonderful for all types of dogs, from shy and fearful to reactive and rambunctious. It can have a noticeable effect on their stress level.
This GoFundMe request is for $400 to cover the cost of a hands-on seminar for volunteers to learn more about nose work so that we can fully implement it at Seattle Humane. The seminar will be conducted by a certified nose work instructor. Our goal is to provide dogs with enrichment and prepare them for their new family. Please consider donating to help a shelter dog! Any amount given in excess of our goal will be directed to the shelter general fund.
