<div><strong>Standing Up for Fairness in the NHS: Sheila’s Story</strong>

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>The NHS is founded on principles of fairness, equality, and opportunity. Every nurse should be supported to grow professionally based on experience, competence, and commitment not background or nationality. When these principles fail, speaking up becomes an act of courage.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>This is the story of Sheila, a dedicated NHS nurse who is standing up for fairness not only for herself, but for many others facing similar treatment in silence.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Sheila is an experienced and committed nurse who has consistently met her professional responsibilities and maintained high standards of patient care. Despite her experience and years of service, she has been denied access to higher training and development modules that are essential for progression within the NHS.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Simultaneously, junior colleagues have been selected and supported for advanced training training that places them on a fast track to senior roles while Sheila has been overlooked without clear, fair justification.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Sheila is not opposing the development of junior staff. Training and progression are vital for the future of the NHS. What she is asking for is fairness and transparency:

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>The experienced staff are given the opportunity to progress before being passed over, and that decisions are made on merit, experience, and readiness not influenced by bias.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>As a migrant nurse, Sheila believes that her background has played a role in her exclusion from these opportunities. Instead of being supported to advance, she has faced workplace bullying, marginalisation, and racial discrimination when raising concerns about unequal access to training.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Sheila has followed NHS processes, raising her concerns through the appropriate internal channels. However, like many NHS workers who challenge unfair treatment, she has faced resistance rather than resolution leaving her with no choice but to seek external support.

<div><strong>Why This Matters Nationally</strong>

</div>
