Help Us Support Sgt. Erik LeVasseur — A Hero Who Stood in the Line of Fire for Us All

On the evening of December 1, 2025, the city of Port St. Lucie was shaken. Officers responded to a disturbance call at Tradition Town Park community when they were met with a gunman armed with a rifle who immediately opened fire on them.

During the exchange of gunfire, Sergeant Erik LeVasseur — a 27-year veteran of the Port St. Lucie Police Department — was struck twice in the face. The suspect then attempted to flank officers by repositioning himself in order to gain a vantage point. This resulted in another exchange of gunfire as the gunmen began firing at Officers at close quarters. Even in the midst of unimaginable trauma, his actions and the actions of the responding officers ultimately stopped the active threat.

Sergeant Erik LeVasseur was rushed to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital where trauma surgeons worked through the night. They later repaired his mandible, wired his jaw shut, and placed a tracheotomy to ensure he could breathe through the swelling and damage. His fight is far from over — shrapnel remains in his retina, requiring transfer to another trauma center and an additional high-risk surgery before he is anticipated to return to Lawnwood for continued care. His recovery will involve multiple operations, extensive rehabilitation, and a long road of healing for both body and spirit.

Why Your Help Matters

The injuries Erik sustained are catastrophic. His family is enduring every parent and spouse’s nightmare:

Waiting, praying, and hoping their hero comes home whole. While insurance will cover portions of treatment, no insurance covers the true cost of survival:

Loss of income during recovery

Travel and lodging for family while he is transferred between trauma centers

Out-of-pocket medical expenses

Specialized therapy and rehabilitation

Childcare and home support

Unforeseen costs tied to long-term trauma recovery

This fund is not simply financial—

It is a message to Erik that his city, his colleagues, his nation, and his community will carry him the way he has carried all of us.

Port St. Lucie has always been one of the safest cities in America — a title that did not come by chance. It came because of men like Sgt. LeVasseur.

He has stood between danger and this community for 27 years.

On December 1st, he stood there again.

He took the bullets meant for others. He lived because he is a fighter. He continues to fight today.

Now we fight for him.
