Marco, a 61-year-old construction worker and longtime provider, was at the Home Depot in College Park when ICE detained him without warning. He had just finished purchasing supplies for work and was getting into a friend’s car when ICE approached and took them both. Within hours, Marco was transferred out of state and is now being held in a detention center in Mississippi, hundreds of miles away from the people who depend on him.

Marco has lived in the U.S. since the 1980s, working his entire life in construction and contracting, and once owned his own business. Everything he did was for his family. He taught his son the value of hard work, responsibility, and resilience. Now, his son is being forced to grow up overnight, taking on as many shifts as possible while trying to finish high school and considering taking on more jobs to keep the house afloat. The family’s bills—rent, utilities, groceries, and legal fees—continue to pile up, even as their main source of stability is gone.
