<div><strong>I'm asking for your support for Seila, who recently experienced a life-altering accident while doing something he loved—rock climbing. </strong>On August 25, 2024, Seila was climbing near Big Bear. He was climbing a lead rope and was unfortunately dropped<strong>*</strong>. He fell ~30 ft and tumbled another ~30 ft. Seila suffered spinal fractures, skull fractures, and collapsed lungs. <em>It is a miracle he survived.</em> The accident resulted in traumatic brain injury and a complete spinal cord injury. <strong>The impact is paralysis—Seila has no motor or sensory function below his chest.</strong>

This accident will be submitted to <a href="https://publications.americanalpineclub.org/about_the_accidents" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Accidents in North American Climbing</a> to aid in that.

<div>This accident has drastically changed Seila’s life, but if you know him, you know he's a fighter. In typical Seila fashion, he has remained <em>incredibly positive</em>. His determination to recover and regain independence is inspiring. He still has a long road ahead that is incredibly challenging—physically, emotionally, and financially.

<div>According to the National SCI Statistical Center, the estimated <a href="https://www.christopherreeve.org/todays-care/living-with-paralysis/costs-and-insurance/costs-of-living-with-spinal-cord-injury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">first year cost</a> for paraplegia is $518,904 with each subsequent year $68,739 (in 2014 dollars). <strong>This GoFundMe will go towards helping Seila with the costs incurred from the accident and help him rebuild his life.</strong>

<li><em>Daily Living Expenses: </em>Seila will be out of work for awhile as he focuses on healing and rehab.
