<div>My name is Alyssa McCourt; I’m the little sister of Jaimee and Scott is my brother-in-law.

<div>I’m sharing their story in an effort to raise funds for the most challenging times ahead of them. This isn’t an easy thing to do, it’s not in our nature to ask for support but the challenges they face are beyond measure and continuing to stack.

<div><strong>Let's start with the good side of their story</strong>, my sister is 44, she waited 43 years to marry someone, so this guy has got to be pretty special right? Well, he is. When we first met Scott in 2018, he was this big rig truck driver who had captured my sister's heart, and we had no idea what their love would blossom into over the years.

<div>He is incredibly kind, has the patience of a saint (I mean, he was dating my sister?!), he had been raising two incredibly driven and kind teenagers on his own for a while. As we grew to learn his story and spend time with him, we couldn't help but fall in love with who my sister had chosen to spend her life with and see he was genuinely as good of a person as you can get. Scott and Jaimee are two peas in a pod, they love their home in a small town of Maine with 320 people that is also the home to his dad and daughter, just a couple doors down the road. It's where he continues to raise his son who just went to prom and is about to graduate high school. Every winter Jaimee and Scott tell everyone they are unavailable because it's snowmobiling season, their favorite sport to do together. Scott makes his living driving a big rig truck; he's on the road a lot and owns a beautiful Peterbilt that my sister enjoys going on trips with him in. If they aren't driving truck or riding snowmobiles, you might catch my sister on the back of the motorcycle while Scott and her drive the coast of Maine. They live a simple but plentiful life in Maine with their dog, Decker, a blocky chocolate lab who is utterly obsessed with Jaimee.

<div><strong>But you see, Scott's story didn't begin with Jaimee. </strong>Tammy Shaw, Scott's wife of nearly 20 years and mother of his two children suffered from lung cancer, which had metastasized to her brain. Scott was her caretaker through the end of her life and learned to grieve the loss of someone who was still alive until it eventually took her life in 2017. Tammy's memory has very much stayed alive throughout their relationship, my sister spending time caring for her grave at times and bringing flowers. She built relationships with Scott's two grown children, building trust and loving them the way they needed to be loved but never intending to be someone she wasn't.

<div><strong>Scott and Jaimee are newly married</strong>, as of Jan 1, 2025, and what should be the happiest year of their life has now become the scariest times they will face together.

<div>After a yearly check up with Scott's family pcp, Dr Charles Kriegel, Unity, ME, ordered an ultrasound on Scott, as he was wondering what possible on and off again pain could be coming from his lower right hand side abdominal area. Results worried professionals, so they ordered a CT scan that confirmed possible cancerous tumor. On April 11, 2025, he was taken to Bangor for a biopsy of the tumor, bone scan and chest scan, which confirmed renal cell carcinoma, and that it hadn't spread to his bones or his chest. That's about the only good news we have received through this whole thing. Normally, a surgeon would remove the infected kidney, and the body would function off its other kidney. However, Scott's "other" kidney is atrophied with little to no use.

<div>Scott's 1 kidney will need to have a tumor removed from the hardest place a tumor could have latched itself onto. The surgeon is planning for a hand-on, manual surgery, not robotic, so he can "handle" the surgery personally and delicately at the age of 54. He will need to clamp off blood flow to the kidney, so he can see what he's doing, keeping his kidney cooled will help slow down blood flow to remove the tumor and sew the kidney back up. Blood flow will be restored back to the kidney which will hopefully resume full function and recovery begins. Short term dialysis may be needed until the kidney functions properly, and in a worst-case scenario, 1 1/2- 2 years of dialysis and with the hope of no reoccurrence of cancer, he'll be considered for a kidney transplant.

<div><strong>Scott will not be able to work after surgery, for at least a month, and possibly up to over 2 years. </strong>

<div>This family needs continued growth, not more loss. Jaimee's salary alone is not enough to keep up with the incoming bills that won't stop while Scott is recovering. She also needs space to support Scott during his recovery and cannot carry this alone. They've discussed liquidating what they can, selling Scott's truck and trailer, motorcycle, snowmobiles and even their house.

<div>Before that all happens, we can help them stay on their feet for as long as possible by supporting them. <strong>Between the two of them, they've already accrued about $15,000</strong> in credit card debt, and the trips to Boston keep adding on.
</div>

<div>Insurance doesn't cover time lost from work, gas, hotel, food while gone etc...and Boston is not cheap.
</div>
