Support the Smith College Equestrian Team!
As many of you know the Smith College Equestrian team has transitioned from a varsity team to a club sport. The team is elated with the new opportunity to train at Stoneleigh Burnham. They have been working with coaches George Halkett and Mina Payne, have met all of the fifty-five horses, and are even starting to plan the show they will host for IHSA zone 1 region 3 on November 4th.
However, this change also means that expenses are higher than in previous years. Access to the new facility comes with increased prices for lessons, with lesson rates increasing faster than in years past. It is the team’s hope that the Student Government Association will help cover some of these increased expenses in years to come, but as a new club sport they are in a transition period and will not be able to obtain that funding this year. I would like to ask for your support as the team makes this transition and raise funds to be successful in this year.
The support you give will be used for scholarships for lessons and will help with team expenses. The college will continue to honor its commitment to cover the cost of shows and transportation as they have in years past. The college loves that alumnae want to remain involved with the team and fully supports our goal to help defray some of the costs incurred by students who are engaged in the Equestrian Program. I can promise that 100% of donated funds* will go directly to fund the Equestrian team.
As you donate, please leave a note of support of our Smith College riders. Just knowing that they have your support encourages them to continue training and supporting equestrianism at Smith College. Also, a list of those who donate will be given to Smith College and the team so they know they have the support of wonderful people like you. We hope that by showing the support of dedicated alumnae, parents, and friends will help to convince Smith College and the SGA that the costs of the Equestrian team are worth supporting in the future to an even greater extent than they already are.
