Hi. I am Jimmy Pollard. I started the Zello channel, ScanBoCo, in April of 2013 so I could keep up with what was happening in the community. The Highway Patrol had recently transitioned to Viper, and few people had a scanner that could hear them. I let a few friends join... and fast forward to today, there are 611 subscribers to ScanBoCo. I have never asked for any help buying the computers that have hosted it over the years or the equipment. It has been my way of helping out the many first responders and their families who want to stay in the know.
Today, every first responder agency in Beaufort County has transitioned to Viper. In July 2025, Viper is going to Phase 2 of P25 radio interoperability, making my current scanner obsolete soon.
In order for everyone to continue to enjoy ScanBoCo, I will have to buy a new radio. The antenna and mast need replacing also. The antenna and LMR400 (expensive) coax is over 20 years old, and the pole is bent. I also recently installed T-Mobile wireless internet that the channel operates off of, which is a separate monthly cost.
I am asking for donations to help pay for the new scanner, antenna, coax, and pole. A little extra for the internet would be nice too, but I understand how expensive life is.
Give whatever you feel comfortable with, and I will keep this going for us all.
Thanks, Jimmy
