Hello, My name Is Julia O’Handley. I am starting a gofundme for my mother Sandy Kathleen Murphy. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in December of 2023. She was admitted and hospitalized at VCU in Richmond. They offered her a treatment and thus my mother was approved to do a chemotherapy treatment at VCU. The treatment seem to be working for her, she lost her very well known wavy long dark brown hair, yes she was weak and had side effects but all in all, our spirits were good and our hopes were high. However in this story it isn’t going to be a good ending. In the ending summer of 2024, we found out the cancer had then spread to her brain which caused them to do surgery and put a picc line in her head to do chemotherapy directly into her brain. As summer had ended. My mother kept her spirits up, she’s a known fighter and wasn’t gonna let this over power her. Towards end of fall and into winter we are in, we found out the chemotherapy has failed. The cancer now has spread to her neck and spine. They told my mother there's two options. Radiation or 1 month to live. We definitely want more than one month, we took the radiation route. My mother had only did 2 radiation treatments and the doctors, my mother and her children have all decided to do comfort care. She came home January 29th 2025 and everyday I had with my mother was a blessing. She passed away February 7th 2025. I had 9 wonderful days with my mother. I was at her bedside everyday. I took care of her everyday. She passed away in her home with her family like she wanted. I'm asking the community for help. The doctors said we had 4 months at the least and this was very sudden. Her children are devastated. Work only gave my brother 3 days grievance. We are not financially prepared or mentally prepared right now. And we will take any type of help we can right now. Unfortunately we do not have 21,000 to bury my mother so we will cremate her and have her urn put in with her mother Judy who passed away in January 2023. We need atleast 11,000 in order to do so. Please share to every social media platform there is. My mother deserve more than this. She's an amazing human being.
