501(c)3 (pending) 4-VETERANS
Meet Samantha Haylee Moreno (Sam), Junior at Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. On May 6th, 2021 The Secretary of State receive her request, and she was approved to incorporate her own NON-PROFIT organization “THUNDAR, LIGHTNING, & PEACE (TLP) for Veterans w/Military Trauma; depression, suicide, trauma-PTSD, and amputees. TLP will support and provide resources to Veterans, while creating a healthy environment to those in need; developing cohesive impactful missions and visions- designed specifically for each Veteran. Fundraising to provide Camp/Therapy and multitude of activities aligned with their mission/vision.
At 16 yrs. old, Sam’s fought her own mental, and physical traumas, dealing with illnesses, bullying, and suicidal thoughts. This dark battle she once had, now is the driving force that fuels her everyday passion to help those in need. Sam stated, “my darkest moment in my life can’t compare to the lifelong trauma many of our Veteran’s endure every day, as civilians and in the field. An average of 20 veterans dies from suicide per day- many losing hope for many reasons. They’ve lost their “mission & vision” for life”. Sam desire is to align a new purpose for veterans that simply can’t do it on their own- due to PTSD, physical disability, or depression. Sam’s networking skills are to “par”- gathering resources and partnering with mentors in the field in order to be ready when “TLP” launches.
What’s in the name, TLP? When Sam was 13 yrs. old, she suffered over a year in excruciating pain, both physical and emotionally. During one of her surgery stays at Kaiser, a non-profit organization with goldendoodles visited patients weekly. These dogs provided the comfort NO MED could provide Sam. Needless to say, Sam received THUNDAR (spelled incorrectly purposely) her own goldendoodle, over 2 years ago, who ironically was born on the same day of her surgery. LIGHTNING reflects Sam’s unexpected harsh strikes in life- that although frightening at times, molded her to this courageous teen. Ultimately, PEACE describes the place she is in now. Thanks to her fierce attitude and some extraordinary people in her life -she hopes to bring some comfort and peace to some significantly deserving Military Veterans.
Sam’s long-life dream is to attend Medical School and pursue her passion as an Orthopedic Surgeon working alongside Military & Trauma Units. She's surely on her way...ambitiously maintaining her 4.5GPA, while taking night classes in the medical field, volunteering in the community, and ecstatically cheering on the Etiwanda's JV Cheer Squad!
This ambitious, determined, freckled, quirking, outgoing, young lady truly has a huge heart. Her kind spirit, bubbly charisma draws individuals to her. She can genuinely be empathetic. sympathetic to many- and naturally people are drawn this distinctive character. She’s hoping TLP & her story will not only inspire other teens, but also encourage and bring hope to individuals currently in their own “dark” moments.
This process is lengthy, costly (CPA, app fees, etc.), and she has decided to pay it ALL herself. She understands this will be a journey but is excited for this opportunity. Until then, she is BLESSED to have organizations and individuals like CEO/President-Edward Ornelas, Inland Empire Regional Chamber of Commerce, CEO/Founder -Our Heroes Dreams and The Claremont Sunrise Rotary, High School Counselor, Mrs. Cristina Parker, teachers, family & friends inspiring and encouraging her along the way.
