Support Sambetti's in Memory of Paul Strome

Donation protected
One of the oldest restaurants in the city has suffered a critical loss. Paul Strome, owner and operator of Sambetti’s, passed away suddenly on March 25, 2019 and you can help honor his legacy and his restaurant.

He bought Sambetti’s from his parents, Sam and Betty Caligiuri, the original owners, in 1985 and moved the restaurant from its original location on Sixth Avenue to Second Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa in 1992. Paul’s family is the only family ever to own the Italian restaurant and bar, which opened in 1979. Throughout its forty years, Sambetti’s has continued to serve up great food and service, and has been a steady supporter of the community through its sponsorship of events.

Many who have been to Sambetti’s say it is like walking into a relative’s home. Even newcomers to the restaurant quickly became friends of Paul’s.

If you love Sambetti’s and Paul, Paul’s small but mighty family needs your interim support. To help secure the future of this restaurant during this unexpected transition period, we are asking Sambetti’s loyal patrons - past and present - for donations to keep this beloved Des Moines institution operating during this difficult time.

Please help honor Paul and Sambetti’s legacy by contributing. Your generosity will help support the bar and grill and the staff that have taken great care of their customers for decades.
