For those of you that don't know me, my name is Sam. I have been working in the nursing field for the last 20 years. My job was always a passion of mine because I love helping people and I love the hard work. I have two sons, one who is only 6 years old. Two years ago, while working a night shift in the ICU, I was attacked by a combative and mentally unwell patient. Aside from being an extremely traumatic & terrifying encounter, the injury required neck surgery for a herniated cervical disc, extensive nerve damage, and bulging neck discs. In a horrible turn of events, the surgery I needed was going to take 8.5 months to receive due to worker's comp. While waiting for surgery, I lost feeling in my foot, so I ended up going to Westchester to receive treatment. There, I had a cervical discectomy with fusion, leaving no feeling from my chin to my chest, that will be permanent. I also have weakness and numbness in my arms and hands and pain every single day, especially while performing regular tasks I never thought twice about. This includes driving, house chores, working out, or really any active movements. That being said, I worked extremely hard to get compensation which ended up to be only half of what my previous salary was. I do have lawyers that are working on my case, however, the whole process is long, expensive and extremely exhausting. Unfortunately, time is not on my side because bills don't stop, and neither does having to feed your family. This whole ordeal has left me jobless, which that alone is a tragedy considering I loved my job. It has left me in extreme pain, and it has also put me and my family at risk of losing everything. So now, after two years of uncertainty and suffering, I am calling on my community to ask for help. An old friend urged me to reach out and start a Gofund me so I can support myself and my family during this tough time. I will be using the funds to pay my rent, car payment, food, and other bills. Its imperative that we don't lose our home, vehicle, or go into debt that I will never be able to get out of. This will give me hope for the future that good things are coming our way! Thank you endlessly for taking the time out of your busy days to read this. Anything will help but most of all knowing I have community to count on will mean more to me and my boys than you could imagine!
