<div>Hello I am Debbie and I am reaching out on behalf of my grandson Ryan. Ryan was diagnosed earlier this year with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

<div>In February of this year what started as a routine yearly appointment with some minor concerns about muscle development, turned quickly into a life changing diagnosis. Just before his 8th birthday, Ryan’s family was shocked to be given the news that he has muscular dystrophy. After genetic testing our worst fears were confirmed that it was the Duchenne type which is the most aggressive and serious of the types. DMD rapidly breaks down muscle cells in the body and can cause decrease ambulatory skills in childhood and can progress to causing issues with the heart, lungs, and other vital organ systems. In the past few months Ryan has been so brave in learning about his diagnosis, starting treatment, and most recently being accepting into a clinical trial through the University of Pittsburgh. There is hopes with this trial to slow down the progression of the disease so Ryan can experience a higher quality life and hopefully also increase life expectancy.

<div>This is where we need your help. We are looking to raise funds to help support Ryan and his family as he starts the first phase of his clinical trial. This phase will require Ryan to attend weekly treatment in Pittsburgh for the next 6 months. While clinical trials do help with some of the costs, it financially will be a burden for Ryan and his family with additional medical costs, travel expenses, lost wages, adaptive equipment, and any other expenses that may occur during his treatment and long term care he may need.
