Support Rozz Hopson's Fight Against Cancer

Rozz Hopson is a wonderful person who has had an impact on the lives of so many people by being her authentic self and connecting with people in the most honest, kind, and firmly understanding ways. Whether Rozz has known you as a family member, as found-family, at work, or through music as a performer, collaborator, or mentor, you know how much that connection can change you and encourage you to be your best self. Not for her, but for yourself and all the world around you.

Starting in 2024, Rozz has been battling abdominal cancer. Many of the typical treatments for the specific type of cancer that Rozz has have proven totally ineffectual. Since late fall, Rozz has found success in her fight through several experimental treatments, and as of this point, there is a 75% reduction in tumors and a positive prognosis for her continued recovery. The downsides to this new treatment are that the rounds of chemo are quite long, they are located in Orange County, and (most problematically) not much of the expense is covered by her insurance. We are expecting Rozz to see an out-of-pocket expense nearing $200,000 over the course of the treatments. We want to help, and if you've read this far: You want to help too.

My name is Sam Roberson, the band leader of San Diego Brass & Electric. We're putting together this GoFundMe to help our singer, bandmate, very good friend, and stellar human being, Rozz Hopson. Rozz has been singing with SDB&E for the last 10 years. In addition to this GoFundMe campaign, we are also hosting a benefit concert for her at the Belly Up Tavern on March 22nd. We have 3 goals set to help our friend in her time of need:

1st Goal - $1,500 - This covers the out-of-pocket expense of a single week of treatments.

2nd Goal - $14,000 - This is the expected amount to cover travel and lodging expenses over the course of treatments, assuming that they are finished mid-May of this year.

3rd Goal - $100,000 - This would be approximately half of the total out-of-pocket expenses during Rozz's course of treatment. While it would be wonderful to be able to have friends and loved ones cover everything, this is our goal to show Rozz "We see what you're going through, and we'll meet you halfway."
