Hi everyone, my name is Rhys and for everyone who knows me, they know that there is one person in the entire world that I owe my entire life to and that’s my mother.
My mother, Roxana, is a strong, brave, and resilient woman who has suffered so much and yet has shown me and countless others so much love and care. She helped my diabetic father through numerous surgeries, nursing him back to health, dedicating her life to keeping him alive. A nurse by trade, she’s used her knowledge and expertise to keep everyone in our family healthy and has saved the lives of countless others.
A few months ago, after a routine mammogram that she had put off in order to take care of my father (who recently underwent multiple arterial bypass surgeries, amputations, heart surgery, just to name a few), the doctors discovered the worst thing anyone could ever expect…Breast Cancer.
It’s unfortunately something 1 in 3 women will experience and yet, it’s something we never expected. Now, she is undergoing treatment, which is not only physically and emotionally exhausting, but also expensive, which is all too common in this country.
Due to a work injury she sustained in 2019 and being a full-time caretaker for my elderly father, she hasn’t been able to work as a nurse and thus hasn’t had a stable or sustainable income, especially not one that can help her afford medical bills.
My mother is one of the kindest, compassionate, and yet stubborn women I’ve ever met, so she will never ask for help. Luckily, she has people who love her and who will advocate on her behalf.
I know times are tough for us all, but if you’re able to, all I ask is for a small donation or if you can share my mom’s story so it can reach someone who may be able to help.
Thank you all so very much, and God bless.
